MICRODERMABRASION

chicago microdermabrasionMicrodermabrasion is a non-surgical skin resurfacing procedure which can improve the appearance of  lines and wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, blemishes and sun damage. The procedure gently abrades the top layers of skin, producing a fresher, healthier-looking appearance while also stimulating the production of new skin cells.

Microdermabrasion FAQs

Candidates for microdermabrasion should be physically healthy and realistic in their expectations. Patients with active acne, active Rosacea, auto-immune disorders, recent herpes outbreaks, unstable diabetes or other conditions may not be appropriate candidates for treatment.

Microdermabrasion may be performed in a surgeon’s office-based facility and usually does not require anesthesia. The average procedural time is about thirty minutes to an hour. Multiple sessions are often required to obtain the best results, and periodic treatment in the future can help to maintain results.

During the procedure, the surgeon uses a device or hand piece which is passed over the skin. The device emits tiny crystals onto the skin’s surface which gently abrade the skin and remove the dead, outer layer. Once the procedure is complete, the skin may be treated with toner, moisturizer and/or sunscreen.

There are few side effects after microdermabrasion. The skin may appear red for a few hours after treatment and it may feel hot or flushed for the first day. Normal activities, including work, can be immediately resumed. Sun exposure will need to be limited for about a week.
